Information students should know....
Given the number of students that I converse with on a regular basis, and the 6000 emails that I receive each year (these are just the ones that I keep), I have decided on some "tips" that students should follow in order to avoid my spam filters and get a response.
- All emails should be in plain text, all attachments in PDF (unless it is something that I need to edit).
- Your emails should come from your Acadia account.
- Your email program should be configured so that your name shows. I don't like getting emails with no name attached. So, any mail sent to me should look like:
From: Ronald MacDonald <1234567m@acadiau.ca>
not
From: <1234567m@acadiau.ca>
or
From: <iLoveXibit2kool@wootmail.ce>
- You should include the course number in all emails that you are sending. Please put the course number in the subject line, in the format of [3753] or [4343]. This will help to avoid my spam filters and will make sure that I know the context of the question. If you are working on a 4th year project with me, then use the project course number.
- Please do not send executables. .zip, .tar or .tgz files are fine if you need to send compressed data. If you include .exe files inside of a .zip file, the Acadia spam filter will find it and I won't get your message.
- Make sure that the clock on your computer is set properly. If your clock is hours slow, I may not see the message.
